No charges will be filed after a young boy was killed in an accidental shooting at a Springfield Township home last week, officials said.

Seven-year-old Justice Jenkins died from a gunshot wound on July 16 at a house in the 9700 block of Arvin Avenue, according to police and Hamilton County coroner records. He was pronounced dead on scene after first responders attempted life-saving measures, Springfield Township police said in a news release.

On Tuesday, police said their investigation uncovered that another child accidentally shot Justice while playing with a firearm they thought was unloaded.

A woman who identified herself as Justice's great-grandmother called in the incident, initially telling dispatchers the boy accidentally shot himself with a gun. The Enquirer obtained a recording of the 911 call through an open records request.

"Investigators consulted with the Hamilton County Prosecutor's Office, and a determination was made there was no violation of criminal law that occurred during this terrible accident," the department said in a statement.
