    Store owner charged: Police find stolen LEGO sets worth more than $200K

    EUGENE, Ore. (WJW) – An Oregon store owner has been arrested after more than $200,000 worth of stolen LEGO sets were found for sale at the store.

    According to a press release from the Springfield, Oregon, police department , officers served a search warrant at the Brick Builders storefront on July 3 at about 12:30 p.m.

    According to the release , a three-month investigation found that the Brick Builders store owner, 47-year-old Ammon Henrikson, was knowingly purchasing stolen, unopened sets of LEGO from local stores.

    The department also named 57-year-old Albert Nash of Eugene as a second suspect.

    The police department partnered with loss prevention investigators from Target, Fred Meyer, Barnes & Noble and Walmart to confirm that Henrikson was buying LEGOs stolen from those stores.

    Investigators found and recovered 4,153 LEGO sets of with a total value of more than $200,000.

    According to police, the LEGO sets were stolen by suspects and then taken straight to the Brick Builders store to exchange for cash, “most often at a fraction of their actual retail value.”

    According to the release, some suspects told police that Brick Builders’ staff knew the LEGO sets were stolen.

    “We all feel the impact of organized retail theft through the increasing cost of items we buy for our families. Recognizing this, SPD’s Crime Reduction Unit, with the support of our retail partners, works diligently to hold accountable those who make the choice to engage in or support retail theft. SPD is proud of the work of our officers, and we are committed to the pursuit of those behind these crimes in our community,” Police Chief Andrew Shearer said.

    According to photos on the department’s Facebook and Instagram pages, LEGO sets worth hundreds of dollars were found, including the LEGO Millennium Falcon, which has a retail price of $849.99, according to the Target website .
