    Tractor-trailer crash leads to fuel spill, fire on I-495 in Springfield

    SPRINGFIELD, Va. ( DC News Now ) — Virginia State Police (VSP) are investigating after a tractor-trailer crashed and caught fire on I-495 West in Fairfax County early Wednesday morning.

    The wreck happened around 2 a.m. at the exit for I-95 South in the Springfield area. VSP said a tractor-trailer carrying produce lost control and slammed into the guardrail at Exit 170C.

    That’s when fuel spilled on the Interstate, and the front of the trailer went up in flames.

    State police said the driver was able to escape and was not hurt.

    As crews worked to clear the scene, the I-495 ramp was closed for several hours. The Virginia Department of Transporation said the ramp re-opened to traffic just before 6 a.m.
