Muncie hospice nurse accused of obtaining narcotics 'by fraud or deceit'
MUNCIE, Ind. — A Muncie hospice nurse is accused of ordering prescription pain medication in the names of nursing home residents who then never received the narcotics. Meredith Griffin Briles, 45, is charged in Delaware Circuit Court 5 with obtaining a controlled substance by fraud or deceit, possession of a narcotic drug and failure to make, keep or furnish a record. All three charges are Level 6 felonies carrying up to 30 months in prison.
Former Indiana star Eric Gordon agrees to deal with 76ers, his 17th NBA season
Former IU basketball star and Indiana Mr. Basketball Eric Gordon's NBA career will extend to 17 seasons. According to multiple reports on Sunday, Gordon has agreed to a one-year contract with the Philadelphia 76ers for the 2024-25 season. Gordon's deal is expected to be for the veteran's minimum, which is estimated to be around $3.3 million for players with 10+ years of service.

Suspect apprehended in Randolph County after police pursuit
UNION CITY, Ind. – Officers from the Union City Police Department attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation. The driver of the vehicle failed to stop and attempted to flee officers at a high rate of speed. The pursuit began in Union City, Indiana and went into Jay County prior to the suspect crashing his vehicle. The vehicle traveled off the roadway and rolled multiple times. The driver was identified as Anthony Weimer.
PFLUM FAMILY URGES WOULD-BE SEARCHERS TO STAY OFF JOHNSON PROPERTY
(Connersville, IN)--The family of Denise Pflum released a statement over the weekend after a Fayette County judge last week stopped their efforts to force the search of the property of Erika Johnson for Denise’s remains. The message indicates the Pflums will try another approach and urges the community to be patient until that happens. They are discouraging the efforts of some to organize a protest, saying that it will not sway the court’s position. They’re also asking that people not venture onto the Johnson property themselves in an effort to search. They say they have a team of search professionals waiting in the wings if and when a search is ever permitted.

A national jewelry retailer is dipping the proverbial toe into Indiana waters, as the state's first gorjana store opened the doors at The Fashion Mall at Keystone on July 1. The 1,375-square-foot store is among 75 gorjana outlets throughout the country, according to a release. A place of hope: Second Safe Haven Baby Box installed in Westfield
First passed in 2000, the Indiana Safe Haven Law allows a person to surrender their infant anonymously without fear of arrest or prosecution. In 2017, Indiana expanded the Safe Haven Law to allow for baby boxes at hospitals, and in 2018 those locations were expanded to include fire stations with available 24/7 emergency medical services.
