ORIGINAL STORY: 1 dead after small plane crashes in ‘lightly traveled’ area of Utah County

UTAH COUNTY, Utah ( ABC4 ) — One person is dead after a small plane crashed in a remote part of Utah County, according to officials.

Sgt. Spencer Cannon with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office told ABC4.com that officials received a call about the crashed plane around 6:15 p.m. on Sunday.

The plane was found in the Cedar Valley area, which is west of Eagle Mountain in Utah County. Cannon said the sole occupant of the plane was deceased, but officials did not immediately know how long ago the crash had occurred.

“We don’t know how long the plane had been there, but the area is lightly traveled so it wouldn’t be unusual for somebody to not see it even though it is just a couple of hundred yards from a road,” Cannon told ABC4.com.

Cannon said officials believe they know who the victim is, and the victim’s family will be notified after the victim has been positively identified.
