Affordable Housing Project Update
The Sawmill Village project, situated on Sawmill Hollow Road just east of the Burnsville city limits, off Hwy 19 E, has been delayed due to permitting issues since its inception in 2021. Extensive grading was initiated in 2023 but remains incomplete. Upon completion, this affordable housing initiative will feature 26 homes for seniors aged 55+ and individuals with disabilities, along with a small community building. According to Luke Fowler, Northwestern Housing Development Manager, on Thursday, June 27th, “We have been working through State environmental regulations and are very close to obtaining clearance to begin, along with the building permit. Grading and utility work should resume within 60 days. We are excited to get this much-needed affordable housing started.”
HCAR Report: Sales, inventory moving up
HIGH COUNTRY — The High Country Real Estate Market of Alleghany, Ashe, Avery and Watauga counties saw sales and inventory alike inching up during May. In May, there were 170 closed sales on single-family and condo/townhouse properties, according to a report from the High Country Association of Realtors. That combined closing total came in at $86.5 million for the month. The combined median sales price was $428,413, according to the report. ...
