Matt Sieg is one of the top recruits in the WPIAL, regardless of class, and he’s continuing to rack up major offers. Sieg — a 6-foot, 170-pound four-star athlete from Fort Cherry in McDonald, Pa. — holds offers from Akron, Minnesota, Nebraska, Penn State, Pitt, Syracuse, WVU and Wisconsin, and he’s playing quarterback and defensive back at the high school level. It appears likely that Sieg will be recruited primarily as a safety, but wherever he ends up on the field, he’ll be one of the highest-recruited WPIAL players in the class of 2026.

Gilbert Brown Playing Crucial Role on Pitt Basketball Staff
More than three years ago, former Pitt basketball player Gilbert Brown joined the Pitt basketball staff as the Director of Player and Alumni Development. Previously coaching at South Kent School, a prep program in Connecticut, Brown joined the Panthers’ staff in a role added by Jeff Capel prior to that 2021-22 campaign.

PITTSBURGH – The Department of Public Works announced today that it has granted a permit to the United States Golf Association to close Fox Chapel Road between Fairway Lane and Riding Meadow Road in Fox Chapel for the 2024 U.S. Senior Women’s Open Championship. The closures will occur from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Monday, July 29 through Sunday, August 4.
From the Vault: Olympian Roger Kingdom
At Pitt from 1981-84, Roger Kingdom would become the Panthers' most accomplished athlete on the international stage. He was a two-time Olympic gold medalist (1984 and 1988). Kingdom attended Pitt on a football scholarship and played two seasons while also excelling on the school's track team. He won the 1983 NCAA indoor and outdoor national championships in the 110-meter hurdles, and the 1984 NCAA indoor title in the 55-meter hurdles.

WPIAL Announces 2024 Football Championship Locations
There’s a slight but potentially major change in WPIAL football championship destinations in 2024. Acrisure Stadium has hosted all but the Class-5A and 6A championships in recent seasons, barring the COVID-19-impacted season in 2020 which impacted all classes, but that’s going to change in 2024. The Class-1A, 2A, 3A and 5A championships will be held at Acrisure Stadium this year.
