103rd South St. Louis County Fair Back In Proctor
PROCTOR, Minn. — The 103rd annual South St. Louis County Fair is back this week. The fun takes place at the Proctor Fair Grounds with each day full of activities for all ages. There is live entertainment, carnival rides, food, and plenty of animals to see. A big part of the fair is introducing people to agriculture. Fair organizers attend a convention every year in Minneapolis to learn everything they can.
Wilderness Health hosts listening sessions on mental and behavioral healthcare needs in Ely
Mental and behavioral health needs remain a challenge throughout the state of Minnesota, and the unique needs of rural Minnesotans require targeted attention. To learn more about the needs of residents of Northern St. Louis County, Wilderness Health invited community members to share their stories and help shape the future of mental health care. The listening session was held on Friday, June 28 at the Ely Senior Center. This was the second event in a series being held across Northeastern Minnesota.
The South St. Louis County Fair returns to Proctor
The South St. Louis County Fair returned to Proctor on Thursday, bringing fun and entertainment for all ages once more. “It starts so that we have a play land for kids inside the sports complex. We have a petting zoo, horses. Entertainment inside the industrial building. We have a lady coming in to tie balloons. We have the exhibits, petting zoo with the poultry and rabbits. and we have the horses that they can walk through the stalls, and the kids are very entertained,” said George Korich, Vice president of the South St. Louis County Fair Association.
Local spongy moth treatments set for Wednesday, Thursday
The Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA) is preparing to treat multiple sites in Carlton and southern St. Louis counties to slow the spread of spongy moth. Officials will conduct the aerial management activities July 10-12, beginning as early as 6:30 a.m. each day and continuing throughout the day. The dates are dependent on weather conditions in the area.

Firefighters extinguish fully engulfed RV Wednesday morning
An RV is considered a total loss after it became fully engulfed in flames early Wednesday morning. According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s office, at around 1:00 a.m. Greenwood and Tower fire departments responded to the intersection of County Road 77 and Lake Vermillion Reservation Road in rural Greenwood Township, just shortly west of Tower, Minnesota to the report of a Recreational Vehicle (RV) on fire.
