Quincy Wilson has accomplished an astounding achievement, becoming one of the youngest Olympians in track and field. The excitement has only grown as it was announced that Wilson, the elite track and field athlete, will start the relay for the United States team on Friday, August 9 at the 2024 Paris Olympics. This is a truly amazing feat given Jim Ryun was the last person to participate at this level at a young age. Ryun was 17.

    Securing The Spot

Quincy Wilson's outstanding speed has propelled him to greatness. According to Yahoo Sports, he holds the record as the fourth fastest American and the eleventh fastest guy in the world in the 400 meters. This is all despite just being 16 years old.

    Quincy Wilson: The Achiever

Quincy Wilson is the poster child for achievement. His exceptional speed is merely one part of his recipe for success. The rest boils down to his extreme dedication to training, enthusiasm for the sport, and a high standard for excellence. And he continues to raise the bar.

One notable proof of the caliber of Wilson's athleticism is the testament of his coach Joe Lee who speaks highly of Wilson. It is evident that Lee admires Wilson and sees him as an overcomer.

The Athletic of the New York Times records Lee as stating that Wilson has endured unjust treatment, including animosity and criticism, from people, that he does not deserve. He, nevertheless, is convinced that with Wilson, everything is right. He goes on to note,

    Rocket Fuel of Internal Fire

People can be harsh, and unrelenting in their criticisms. Wilson, however, has demonstrated that none of that matters. The opinions of others are inconsequential to achieving one's dreams. What matters is the individual's desire, the unrelenting itch to stoke the embers of that internal fire. Wilson has so much fire it has boosted him to the highest level of competition.

    Building Anticipation

Willson's excitement spilled over in a recent Instagram post where he hinted at his historic appearance and participation in the Olympic relay. Why wouldn't his excitement be unbridled? He's living a dream.

The anticipation is finally over as according to Yahoo News, the list of relay participants is not usually disclosed right away The piece says,

    Prioritizing Dreams

Wilson is more than a great runner. One thing that sets Wilson apart from the masses is his focus. Wilson has admitted to the desire to continue to indulge in typical teenage activities, like playing Call of Duty. He, however, understands that first things come first. He puts all the other stuff on hold giving his Olympic dreams priority.

This isn't new terrain for this athlete. Being driven is an attribute Wilson has had since his early years. Wilson knew what he wanted from a young age. He targeted his desire, found a model, and pursued his dream with unwavering passion. Williams shared a memory from childhood underscoring the discovery of that love for speed.

    Quincy Wilson: A Dream Realized

According to The Athletic, as an 8-year-old in Texas for the AAU Junior Olympics, Wilson was inspired by runners like Brandon Miller and Tyrese Cooper. At the time he asked his mother what it would take to be like them.

It is not noted what his mother relayed to him but whatever it was; he took note, honed, and mastered it, leading him to this monumental achievement.

    Fulfillment Day

Friday is a day that will be etched in the memory of Quincy Wilson and people worldwide. It will be the day a sixteen-year-old positions himself at the starting line, channels his inner strength, and sets forth to become a live example of a dream manifesting in real-time.

Regardless of his performance or the team's placement, there is one clear thing. Wilson has already achieved greatness. To be on that track will mean he has risen to a position that many could only imagine, the status of a true Olympian. If dedication, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of excellence do not define a true Olympian what does?

    Character Counts

Aptitude is only one attribute of this amazing competitor, character is another. One of the best testaments to his character comes from his coach. Wilson’s coach Lee, a coach at Bullis School in Maryland, has had the distinct pleasure of working with Wilson.

He speaks fondly of the athlete's character. The Athletic records, “He [Lee] knows what fame, expectation, and society can do to people, to teenagers. Wilson has the markings of a pure soul. His smile still comes naturally, his charm is still boyish, and his voice still sings with innocence. His eyes still dream.

    Beholders of History

On August 9, 2024, the world will witness another dreamer etching his name in history. The world will stand witness to the day skill, talent, and work ethic combine in an unforgettably empowering display.
