The Yankees failed to bring it home for the little guys during the Little League Classic after falling 3 to 2 to the Detroit Tigers. The New York Yankees maintained a narrow 1-0 lead from the sixth inning onward, up until the final inning when Clay Holmes was set to close out the game and bring home a win for the Yankees. Unfortunately, in typical Clay Holmes fashion, Holmes failed to bring home a win and gave up a run, setting up the extra-innings loss.

Kids Fill The Stands For Little League Classic

The Yankees faced off against the Detroit Tigers at the Little League Classic for their rubber matchup. It was also the major league return of Jasson Dominguez who recently came off a UCL injury he suffered in September of last year. Dominguez did not have an impressive showing as he had no hits in his four at-bats. There's no need for Yankees fans to worry as Dominguez is likely to be shaking off some of that major league rust and will be back to hitting just fine in the coming days.

    Clay Holmes To The Rescu-...Nevermind

Known for blowing close games this season, tonight fared no exception as Holmes allowed a run late in the ninth inning, pushing the game into extra innings. A DJ LeMaheiu RBI single in the tenth inning wasn’t enough as Jack Leiter Jr. gave up two runs in the bottom of the tenth and allowed the win for the Tigers.

Dubbed "Heart Attack Clay Holmes" by Bronx Bombers’ fans, Holmes has developed a reputation for blowing saves throughout this season. Following yesterday's game against the Detroit Tigers, Holmes has now recorded 10 blown saves, marking the highest number of blown saves in a single season for the Yankees franchise since Dave Righetti's 13 in 1987.

Marcus Stroman Pops Out And Shows He Can Throw

The loss is particularly frustrating for fans, especially considering the strong performance by Marcus Stroman. Stroman delivered an impressive outing , pitching six innings with five strikeouts, two walks, and no runs allowed. Both Luke Weaver and Tommy Kahnle successfully stifled the Tigers' offense, but unfortunately, Holmes could not close out the game.

    Holmes Started The Season Strong

Holmes began the season on a high note , allowing no runs in April and May. Holmes allowed four runs in May which all came in a single game. By the end of May, he had accumulated 13 saves. However, Holmes' performance as a closer has since declined, with only six saves recorded between June and July.

Currently, the New York Yankees lack a viable replacement for Holmes as their closer and do not appear to be seeking one. Both the Yankees' organization and its fans may have to bite the bullet during this challenging period of Holme’s season and hope for him to regain his early-season form before the postseason begins. Concerns about Holmes' performance are justified, as his role will be pivotal in determining the Yankees' postseason success.
