At Ease program creates a more accessible space at Fort Belvoir Army museum
Tomorrow, the National Museum of the United States Army (NMUSA) will close early to the general public. However, it will remain open for visitors who have any type of sensory issues. The program is called At Ease. It will take place between 4 and 6 p.m. While the museum offers daily options for anyone with an accessibility issue, At Ease is a more intimate experience. During past programs, some visitors have wandered through the entire museum without seeing another guest.
Flood funding available through Flood Mitigation Assistance Program
County residents, property owners, common interest communities (CIC) and places of worship may now be eligible for financial assistance with their floodproofing and mitigation efforts through the Flood Mitigation Assistance Program (FMAP). The program took effect on July 1, through a partnership between the Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES) and the Northern Virginia Soil and Water Conservation District (NVSWCD). It has been noted in the Resilient Fairfax Plan that due to climate change, the County can expect an increase in heavy rainfall events that surpass the capacity of the stormwater management system, which will lead to more flooding. Official say FMAP will be an invaluable resource to many who need assistance to protect their property.
Mount Vernon Police District gets new station commander
The Mount Vernon Police District has a new station commander — Maj. Matthew Luik. Luik comes to the Mount Vernon District Police Station after having served as Major of the Criminal Investigations Division within the Major Crimes Bureau of the Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD). Prior to his promotion to that position this past spring, he was the assistant commander of the Violent Crimes Division.

Ballston Target has become a frequent target of shoplifters
