The National Weather Service in St. Louis says a line of severe thunderstorms will threaten damaging wind as strong as 80 mph this afternoon in eastern Missouri and western Illinois. NORMAL – The Normal Fire Department was able to help out with more than just putting out an apartment fire on Monday. According to the fire department, crews responded to a kitchen fire Monday morning at an apartment in the 600 block of Orlando Avenue. The Little League Senior Softball World Series started on Monday in Roxana, Delaware. The Illinois squad took their first step to defending their championship from last year with a 10-1 win over the West squad from Hawaii. Illinois blasted four home runs in the game, two by Aspen Kitwoski from Springfield. Standout pitcher and 2-time first team all-stater Mia Volpert, also from Springfield, launched a home run and was perfect in the pitching circle in her four innings of work, striking out five batters. Hallie Gibson of Carlinville pitched the final three innings, giving up two hits and an earned run with three strikeouts.
