When we launched our reimagined Sunday StarNews back in December, I told you that we would focus on three key values -- transparency, impactful journalism and community engagement.

The feedback we’ve received has been overwhelmingly positive. You really like the in-depth cover stories, the emphasis on local history and the columns that offer a glimpse into the lives of our staff members.

Today’s edition is a great example of how we’re fulfilling our mission.

More: The world's largest military terminal is in Brunswick County. Here's why and what it does.

The cover story, which takes you behind the gates of Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point, offers insight into what the world’s largest military terminal does and how it impacts our community.

I was fascinated to learn the history of how Sunny Point came to be located in our neck of the woods and to better understand its mission and commitment to safety.

Meanwhile, our MyReporter story today, which came directly from a reader, answers a question I’m sure a lot of you have: What makes up the Cape Fear region and how did it get its name?

You’ll have to read the story to find out the answer, but I will share that MyReporter has been a good way for us to engage with readers. We’ve answered dozens of your questions since December, and they often help us know what issues are most important to you.

More: There is no Cape Fear, NC, on my map. Where exactly is it? | MyReporter

More: What it was like vacationing with my family at Carolina Beach | Madison Lipe

In addition, today’s column from reporter Madison Lipe was simply fun to read. I love seeing how she has embraced her life in Wilmington and her interest in exploring everything the area has to offer. And it’s a good reminder that there’s nothing wrong with being a tourist in your own town from time to time.

Finally, I want to thank those of you who’ve shared feedback on our reimagined Sunday edition. I hope you find something informative and entertaining each week.
