Step inside for the latest on several 2025 and 2026 prospects on Mississippi State’s radar in football and basketball along with team news:

First Biscuit – Starting the day with football and team news, of late I have talked to sources about the Mississippi State safeties group entering training camp and that grouping is pretty much the same as we discussed early in the summer. In spring ball the majority of the two-deep guys practiced at different safety spots in order to be flexible, which is the norm. So it is hard to say who exactly lines up where when camp opens. But based on what I’ve gathered, Hunter Washington (nickel), Isaac Smith (strong safety) and Brylan Lanier (field safety) could very well be the starting trio on the backend of the defense. As noted during camp season, sophomore Kobi Albert was cleared earlier this summer following his rehab from injury so that only adds more depth to the safety group. Corey Ellington, Tyler Woodard and DeAgo Brumfield are also expected to be in the depth mix so that should give State a solid rotation at safety.

Second Biscuit – Moving to football recruiting, on Monday I talked some with 2025 defensive lineman and On3 composite four-star prospect Kevin Oatis of Hattiesburg High School. Oatis said he begins training camp in a couple more weeks so he is preparing for that now that camp season has come and gone. Oatis said he may be at Mississippi State’s cookout event on July 25th but said that’s the only visit he is considering taking before football season begins. Oatis noted that he still plans to make his college decision in August, likely in the middle of the month. He added that Mississippi State, LSU and Texas A&M continue to be his Top 3 with Arkansas also in the mix. In June, Oatis took official visits to State and Arkansas, and has mentioned possible official visits to LSU and Texas A&M during the season.

Third Biscuit – Moving to the Class of 2026 for a minute, on Monday I talked with 2026 offensive tackle prospect Charles Humphrey of Memphis Academy Science Engineering, who missed his sophomore season due to an injury but is full go this offseason. He has played on both sides of the ball but this summer he mostly focused on the offensive line with his camp showings. Humphrey holds offers from Mississippi State, Oregon, Memphis, Toledo and Arkansas State among others and camped at State and Memphis this summer. He collected his State offer after camping with the Bulldogs in June and said he hit it off well with offensive line coach Cody Kennedy. He added that Kennedy gave him a lot of tips about his position that he can use going into his junior campaign. Of course, it is way early in his recruiting process but for now, he has Mississippi State as his top favorite.

Fourth Biscuit – Moving back to the Class of 2025, on Monday I talked more with Mississippi State commitment and On3 three-star running back Kolin Wilson of Gulf Shores (Ala.) High School. After rushing for 2,010 yards and 31 touchdowns as a junior, Wilson said he’s focused on being a more complete tailback this season and will be lining up at running back, slot, outside receiver and also at cornerback. Wilson mentioned that being able to slide down in the slot will benefit him at State because of what State does on offense with their backs. As noted, Wilson told me last week that he is on track to graduate early and enroll at Mississippi State in January of 2025. Wilson also said he has shut down his recruiting process and has told other schools that he is locked in with State and finished with recruiting. Wilson plans to be back in Starkville next week for the cookout event at Jeff Lebby’s house and said he is ready to be around the coaches and recruits again.

And for the gravy on top – And lastly on Monday, I talked to various sources regarding 2025 power forward and On3 four-star prospect Jamarion Davis-Fleming of Canton High School, who finished up his Peach Jam appearance this past weekend with Team Thad. As mentioned previously, Davis-Fleming is set to officially visit Mississippi State in late September and has also talked of taking official visits to Ole Miss and LSU (hasn’t set those dates yet). Davis-Fleming also still has his decision timeframe set for October 15th, and based on what I’ve heard lately, on Monday I put in a Mississippi State prediction on On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine for Davis-Fleming.
