JACKSON, Miss. — A federal agency that investigates scammers and fraudsters is bringing attention to the problem in Mississippi. The Federal Trade Commission says Mississippians lost tens of millions of dollars last year to scammers. The FTC held a conference Wednesday in Jackson to engage with ethnic media organizations across the state and consumer advocates to shine a spotlight on scams that target communities of color.

Louisiana mother of 4-year-old found dead confesses to killing, says she was on drugs
The mother of a 4-year-old boy who was found dead in a lake behind the Vinton Welcome Center confesses to killing her son, KPLC has reported. Aaliyah Jack was arrested July 8 in Mississippi after her 4-year-old son was found dead in a lake at a welcome center and her other child, a 1-year-old, was found alive in a ditch off Interstate 10, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office said.
