Pair of backpack thieves caught in State College

State College, Pa. — Two men allegedly took to a backpack from an indivdual who was sleeping in a park in State College.

Evan Joseph Egolf, 28, and Dimitri Woiciechowski, 38, approached a man in February of this year as he slept in Sidney Friedman Park just before midnight, according to Officer Joshua Deets. The two men took the victim’s shoes, before returning and taking his backpack, Deets added.

Egolf, who reportedly knew the victim, was identified by surveillance video captured at the park, according to the complaint. When confronted, Egolf admitted to the theft and identified Woiciechowski as the other man in the video, Deets wrote in his report.

Both men are being charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. Their preliminary hearings are scheduled for the end of the month.
