    Arts Festival Announces Awards for ‘Images 2024’ Fine Art Exhibition

    The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts announced $1,800 in awards for its annual juried exhibition of fine art, " Images 2024 ." Award recipients were selected by the show’s juror, Danny Volk, who also chose the 50 pieces in the exhibition from among the 313 submitted from across Pennsylvania.

    Nasir Young, of Willow Grove, was awarded Best in Show for his oil painting "Double Parked." The award was sponsored by the Chamber of Business & Industry of Centre County.

    Katrina Lawecki, of Hollidaysburg, received the Best Photograph award, sponsored by the State College Photo Club, for her photograph "True Grit."

    Anne Kenyon, of State College, won the Best Pastel award for her work "Tidal Pool Series — Rockweed & Blue." The Central Pennsylvania Pastel Society sponsored the award.

    Marty Edmunds, of Boalsburg, was awarded Best Painting for her oil painting "Junkyard Dog." The new award for 2024 was sponsored by Benson and Christine Lichtig and the Lion & Cub.

    The following works were chosen as Award of Merit winners.

    • "Evening Amaryllis," by David Chaiko, of Quakake
    • "Asaph Run," by Kari Roslund, of Newton Hamilton.
    • "Portrait of a Genius-level Gnome with Psionics," by Tom Mickle, of Philipsburg
    • "Outer Space," by Charleen Casbourne, of Bellefonte

    The Awards of Merit were sponsored by the Art Alliance of Central Pennsylvania, the Bellefonte Art Museum for Centre County, Joyce Robinson and Norman Spivey and Chris and Gail Hurley.

    Donovan Baxter, of Pitcairn, won Best Student Submission, sponsored by Schlow Library Foundation, for his hand-pulled screen print "Skipping Steps: Sunflower."

    The awards were presented at a reception hosted by the Schlow Library Foundation on July 11 during the five-day Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts.

    "Images 2024" will be on display throughout July at Schlow Centre Region Library and can be viewed online at arts-festival.com/images-exhibition-gallery .

    In addition to the juror’s award winners, one final award winner will be chosen by the people who visit the exhibition this month. Vote for the Viewers’ Choice honor by scanning the QR code accompanying the exhibition at Schlow Library through July 31.

    The 58th Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts concluded on Sunday, July 14. The 2025 festival is scheduled for July 9-13.

    The entry deadline for "Images 2025" will be May 2.
