Penn State has locked in another visit with St. John’s College High edge rusher Tariq Boney . Listed at 6-foot-1, 230 pounds, Boney took the opportunity to visit State College twice this past spring, first attending a spring practice in March. He then followed that up three weeks later with a second visit for the Blue-White Game on April 13.

Now, the Washington, D.C., based prospect is set to return to Happy Valley for his third visit this year, confirming that he plans to attend Penn State’s second Lasch Bash event on Saturday, July 27.

“One thing I liked about the trip was how welcoming they made me feel,” Boney said following his first visit to State College back in March. “PSU has a very family-oriented program and made me feel at home. Me and my family also enjoyed how much they competed in practice in every single drill and live period. Another thing that stood out was when Coach [James] Franklin was talking about finishing school and getting your degree while still being able to go to the NFL. I think that is a big priority for me, so it was really great to hear. All in all, It was a great trip.”

Boney said he also got a good feel for defensive line coach Deion Barnes and other members of Penn State’s recruiting staff.

“I got to talk to Coach Barnes with my parents briefly before practice and some time after,” Boney said. “What I got from that is that he pushes players to their full potential and lets them go be free and hunt the football. I really like how intense and serious he is when it comes to coaching because that really shows that he cares not only for the team but the benefit of you as a player. As for the recruiting staff, I got to talk to Coach [Rashad] Rich , who played in the WCAC growing up, so we had a connection there. Others on their recruiting staff made me feel welcome for sure.”

After finishing up his sophomore season, Boney saw his list of offers increase substantially. He’s now up over 20 schools and counting with programs like Auburn, Maryland, Pitt, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Wisconsin all offering.

According to On3’s Industry Rankings , Boney is currently ranked No. 436 nationally. He’s the 30th-ranked edge rusher and No. 4 overall in Washington, D.C., for the Class of 2026.
