NILES, Ohio (WKBN) – Despite leading 2-1 heading into the ninth inning, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers fell to the State College Spikes, 6-2, Saturday night at Eastwood Field.

The Spikes capitalized for five runs in the top half of the final innings, highlighted by Caleb Hill and Cooper Hext’s back-to-back run-scoring singles that plated four runs.

On the mound, Scrappers starter Grant Umberger tossed six shutout innings while giving up just two hits, zero walks, zero runs and striking out 10 batters in the no-decision.

Offensively, it was Drey Dirksen and Drew Holderbach both driving in runs for the Scrappers despite the loss.

The Scrappers fall to 18-19 on the season and will close out the four-game series with the Spikes with another game at Eastwood Field on Sunday.
