Tyler Warren hints at Beau Pribula’s involvement in Penn State’s offense

The Penn State Nittany Lions are set at starting quarterback going into the 2024 season with Drew Allar returning to start. Behind him, the Nittany Lions feel confident in backup quarterback Beau Pribula .

Being the backup quarterback doesn’t mean that Beau Pribula isn’t going to see the field, though, and at Big Ten Media Days star tight end Tyler Warren hinted at how he could be used in Penn State’s offense.

“Coach K [ Andy Kotelnicki ] is gonna use his best players and Beau is a great player,” Tyler Warren said. “You saw him play last year. He’s very capable of playing at this level. So, I think it’s fair to say he’s not just gonna have them in the closet the whole time and never bring him out.”

Pribula played in 11 games for the Nittany Lions in 2023 without being the team’s starting quarterback. Those appearances came in a mix of garbage time once Allar was pulled from a game and in specific packages designed to use his athleticism.

What Penn State’s offense looks like in 2024 is an interesting question. Head coach James Franklin made the decision to move on from former offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich , replacing him with Andy Kotelnicki, who will have his own way of using Beau Pribula. If what Tyler Warren said at Big Ten Media Days is right, even with the offensive coordinator change, there will still be a role for Pribula. In fact, that role could come at multiple different positions.

Notably, this spring, it was reported that Pribula is feeling very comfortable in the new Penn State offense and that he had one of his best springs with the program.

“I think Beau, obviously, is a great leader. He’s a vocal guy,” Warren said. “He’s a great football player and there’s a lot he can do on a football field, not just at quarterback. He can move around and probably play five or six different positions. So, I’m excited for him. I think he’ll have a good year.”

Beau Pribula came to Penn State as a three-star recruit out of York, Pennsylvania in the Class of 2022 , according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He was the 26th-ranked quarterback in that class and the 461st-ranked player overall.

In 2023, Pribula completed 52.4 percent of passes for 149 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for 329 yards and six touchdowns on the ground. Those are numbers that he’ll look to build on in 2024.
