Delaware speedster Jahsiear Rogers opens up about Penn State commitment: ‘I’m like a sports car, I got different gears’

Penn State picked up one of the region’s hidden gems Saturday with the addition of Delaware native Jahsiear Rogers . A three-star wide receiver from Appoquinimink High School, Rogers earned an offer from the Nittany Lions in mid-June when he attended the staff’s Lion Strong tournament with his 7-on-7 team, Loyal Elite.

Not only did he make some special plays on the field, but Rogers then tested off the charts, running a 4.3-second 40-yard dash and posting a broad jump just shy of 11 feet. That instantly made him a player that Penn State had to seriously pursue.

“I know I’m fast, but I don’t really always show that I’m fast a lot,” Rogers said. “I don’t run track. I’m a receiver all the way, but I don’t really be running as fast as I have to because nobody can catch me. I’m like a sports car, I got different gears.”

He went on to add, “The way I was playing, I knew that I was going to get it,” Rogers said when asked if he was surprised Penn State offered back on June 14. “I was having a good day that day and I just believe in myself a lot. I know I can play the game at an elite level. When I started playing, all the coaches started coming over. Then Coach [James] Franklin started watching all our games and watching me closely. He stuck with me throughout the day.”

Three Things: What Jahsiear Rogers’ commitment means for Penn State recruiting

Rogers earned just two additional offers from James Madison and Indiana, but he said there were a host of programs showing serious interest in recent weeks.

“Before I committed, there were a lot of schools that were about to offer me,” Rogers said. “North Carolina, Rutgers, Kentucky and Tennessee were all showing interest. Syracuse was another one.”

However, despite the surge in interest recently, Rogers said there was no reason to wait. He and his family already knew that Penn State was the right place for him.

“From the first time I met Coach Franklin, it just felt like family. It just felt right,” Rogers said. “I felt like it was the right thing and my family felt like it was the right thing from day one. We connected and made a bond from day one. They’ve been talking to me every single day. They literally never missed a day.”

Rogers added that he also has a few connections to the school, including freshman wide receiver Tyseer Denmark . Plus, after getting to know some of Penn State’s other Class of 2026 commits this past weekend, he felt good about the program’s future.

“Tyseer is one of my friends. He’s somebody I look up to and get knowledge from. I’ve learned a lot from him,” Rogers said. “I actually played against Messiah [Mickens] , too. They beat us by a touchdown but I had like three touchdowns in that game.

“But also, another reason I wanted to commit is Troy Huhn . I didn’t really know him before this weekend, but I knew there was a good chance he’d go to Penn State so I’ve been following him. We created a good bond this weekend and I want to get some work in with him. But I’m excited to play with Troy and all those guys. He can sling the rock.”
