NYC clears 220 tons of trash from this debris-ridden Staten Island location
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — It took 20 days and the removal of 220 tons of trash, but New York City finally delivered for a North Shore community. The Port Richmond North Shore Alliance civic group pushed for years to get the old North Shore Branch of the Staten Island Railroad, controlled by the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC), cleaned up, but their calls fell on deaf ears.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Trees were downed and electricity was halted in neighborhoods throughout Staten Island in the wake of Sunday night’s sudden torrential downpour. Great Kills was hit particularly hard, as several trees were toppled along a section of Oakdale Street. In most instances, the large trees were seen uprooted from the ground by the sidewalk and were leaning against power cables in front of houses in the South Shore neighborhood.
