Street closures in downtown Salem due to pedestrian fatal

Multiple streets were closed downtown Monday evening after a fatal collision involving a train and a pedestrian, Salem Police said.

The collision was near the rail line’s intersection with D Street NE. East-west traffic was closed between D Street NE and Mill Street SE. The pedestrian was deceased, police said.

Drivers were advised to take an alternate route.

The closures were expected to last at least two hours for the investigation.
