A man who was formerly from Salem died in a crash on Highway 214 on the western edge of Silver Falls State Park on Saturday afternoon, according to Oregon State Police.

Police said 35-year old David Dale Legan was driving west on the highway at about 3:30 p.m. when a Chevrolet pickup he was driving, identified as a U-Haul vehicle, left the road on a downhill corner.

Police say they don’t know why the truck left the road.

The truck hit a large tree head-on and ended up on its side.

Police said Legan was declared dead at the scene and that he was not wearing a seatbelt.
