Watch: Bull moose visits kids in hot tub in Steamboat Springs

DENVER ( KDVR ) — Four kids in Steamboat Springs were playing in a hot tub on Sunday when one of them felt something breathing in his ear.

According to family member Morgan Bessette, it was a young bull moose that had appeared from behind a fence. Before anyone noticed, the moose was already standing next to the hot tub.

“When the other kids realized what was happening they exclaimed, ‘Moose!’ and in response, they all rushed over to the opposite corner of the hot tub and stayed there in a huddle,” said Bessette.

The moose appeared calm and apparently only came for a sip of water. Bessette said the moose was drinking water for about three minutes and by the time it left, the water level in the hot tub was about two inches lower.

The moose came back for a few more sips before checking out the yard and eventually wandering away.

During this time, Bessette said the kids were directed to remain in the hot tub and stay quiet to stay safe and not startle the moose.

This is one of many close moose sightings within the year.

Throughout the winter, many moose were sighted in local ski areas . There have also been sightings throughout the summer, with the most recent one wandering through Jefferson County yards .

Colorado Parks and Wildlife said that if you see a moose, make sure you keep your distance and call your local sheriff’s office if one gets too close to your home.
