    NEW DETAILS: One woman dead following fiery crash near Steinhatchee

    UPDATE 12:05 P.M.

    Florida Highway Patrol confirmed in their report that a 37-year-old woman from Mayo died in the crash. She was driving a car.

    A 74-year-old man from Steinhatchee was also involved in the crash. He was driving a van. His injuries were minor.

    FHP said in their report that the van was was traveling north on State Road 51 approaching Peanut Road. The car was traveling south on State Road 51, passing Peanut Road. The van crossed the center line and entered the southbound lane while traveling north and then traveled off the road, entering the grassy shoulder to the left.

    The car's driver attempted to avoid the van, left the roadway to the right, and entered the grassy shoulder. The van and the car collided driver side to driver side, causing the car to overturn on its rooftop.

    The car caught fire and the woman was pulled from the vehicle by a witness, before the car became fully engulfed. The woman was pronounced deceased on the scene. Next of kin has been made.

    The man was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. The Florida Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by the Taylor County Sheriff's Office, Taylor County Fire Rescue, Century EMS, and FDOT.

    Florida Highway Patrol is responding to a deadly crash in Taylor County. According to the FHP incident map, at least one person is dead following a crash on State Road 51 near Steinhatchee Falls Road about 1.7 miles southwest of U.S. Highway 19.

    The FHP crash map shows troopers were dispatched to the scene at 8:40 a.m. on Thursday. They arrived at the scene at 9:11 a.m. Notes indicate there is a complete roadblock on State Road 51. Drivers are urged to avoid the area.

    A spokesperson for FHP said a silver Chrysler van and a silver Ford car are involved. FHP said the car caught fire following the crash. A woman who was inside that car was pulled from the vehicle, but due to her injuries, she died shortly after.

    Traffic is being diverted away from 51 at Highway 19.
