BELVIDERE, Ill. (WIFR) - The future of Belvidere’s electric vehicle plant enters unchartered territory following President Joe Biden’s departure from the race. Local UAW 1268 President Matt Frantzen says he’s not surprised Biden dropped out, but he’s disappointed by the decision. Biden played a key role in re-opening the Stellantis plant as a manufacturer of electric vehicle parts. Most recently, the Biden administration secured more than $334 million from the Department of Energy to support the shift to EVs.
