Bricks saved: Cherry Valley trustees vote to preserve signature roadway
CHERRY VALLEY — The russet brick road that is a signature part of the character of the village of Cherry Valley has been saved. Village trustees voted Tuesday to reverse course on previous plans to harvest bricks on East State Street between Lawrence and Van Buren streets and pave that roughly three-block stretch. The board voted 4-1 to change its street improvement contract with Rock Road Companies and eliminate the portion that called for removing the bricks.

Chocolates sold in Iowa and eight other states are part of a massive recall due to a risk of Salmonella poisoning. Davenport man sentenced to 10 years on drug, firearm charges
DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - A Davenport man was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison on drug and firearm charges. Trevon Demon Horne, 23, was sentenced to 126 months in prison on June 26 for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm in furtherance to a drug trafficking crime.

What new Illinois laws mean for Oak Park
Illinois’ new laws went into effect July 1, including a minimum wage increase and a gas tax increase. In Chicago and in Cook County, which encompasses Oak Park, minimum wage workers will now make a base pay of $16.20 per hour. Before, the minimum wage was $15.80 per hour.
