Shower and storm chances Friday for the Rockford region
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - This afternoon will feature a bit of cloud cover as well as scattered shower and thunderstorm chances. This won’t be an all day wash out and many of us will stay completely dry. However, the chances are there so it’s not a bad idea to have the umbrella on standby. Highs today are in the mid-70s.
Rockford firefighter injured in 1 of 4 fires overnight
ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) - According to Rockford Fire, they responded to 4 structure fires between 4:50 p.m. and 2:42 a.m. They list the four incidents on X. They say that one firefighter suffered a minor injury at the Montague Street fire, two adults were displaced by the Church Street fire and there were no civilian injuries.

First Responders Kept Busy July 4
Celebrating America's independence sometimes leads to problems. Especially when dealing with fireworks. Just past midnight Friday morning, Utica firefighters were called to a rural property northeast of the village for a 21-year-old man with a “pipe in his chest from fireworks”. The emergency dispatch report mentioned the person conscious but “fading out”. He was taken by ambulance to OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa.

Heavy police presence in Rock Island
A heavy police presence was in a Rock Island neighborhood late Thursday when Our Quad Cities News crew saw Rock Island Police search for and collect evidence. The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. near an intersection of 24th Street and Ninth Avenue. Officers rolled out large amounts of crime scene tape, and placed evidence markers next to what appeared to be shell casings.
