Fast: Woodie Seat will be open for awhile
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson Mayor Greg Fast noted that though phase one of the Woodie Seat project is done, there will be more to do in the coming years. "It is open, it does look like we've done something," Fast said. "It's beautiful, smooth, striped perfectly, some of the medians are taken out or shaved down. That was phase one that we worked with the county with a combined grant from the state to help pay for a lot of that."

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The next Saturday Night at the Y will actually be at Salt City Splash in July. "Actually on the 13th at six o'clock, we will be having our event at Salt City Splash," said David Foster with the Hutchinson YMCA. "Thanks to Tony and the great folks at Hutch Rec for hosting us out there. It's for anybody and everybody that's been to a Saturday night at the Y already this school year, or if this would be your first one, we will have registration forms that parents just need to fill out on site, and that will get you into the event."

Public works to build stormwater detention basin
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The City of Hutchinson Public Works Department has plans to build a new stormwater detention basin south of 23rd Ave and west of Severance Street. "In 2017 the City of Hutchinson had an engineering company review our stormwater master plan. A big plan that looks at how we manage stormwater flows across the entire city and through the process of reviewing that, we developed a number of projects that we thought we could build that would help reduce flooding in areas of the city and this is one of those," Project Manager for the City of Hutchinson Public Works Department Evan Patterson said.
Reno Co. residents part of mental health cohort
RENO COUNTY — A group of 24 individuals from various backgrounds and professions is focused on making progress on the adaptive challenge of mental health in Reno County. The 2024 Mental Health Leadership Cohort is a new approach to the Kansas Leadership Center’s Leadership Transformation Grant that Hutchinson Community Foundation has held on behalf of the community since 2019. The leadership development grant has allowed more than 100 individuals representing 49 businesses and organizations in Reno County to take part in KLC programs.
City to consider Zoo masterplan, Atrium resolution
The Hutchinson City Council will consider approving the 10-year Hutchinson Zoo masterplan Tuesday at its regular meeting held at city hall. In the official agenda packet released Friday, Director of the Hutchinson Zoo Nicole Mantz said the primary objectives of the plan are to address infrastructure and the needs of animals and guests.
Kansas Exporters Roundtable series next week in Hutchinson
TOPEKA, Kan. — The International Division of the Kansas Department of Commerce on Tuesday announced it will begin a monthly Kansas Exporters Roundtable series in July. With three-quarters of potential customers located outside of the United States, Commerce will visit 12 cities across the state and offer assistance for small- to medium-sized Kansas companies.
