Officials investigate ‘suspicious fire’ in Stevens County
STEVENS COUNTY, Wash. – Fire officials are investigating a “suspicious” small brush fire that burned south of Springdale. Stevens County Fire District 1 responded to a .35-acre brush fire in a dry underbrush with fallen trees. Due to brief winds carrying embers, firefighters reported minor torching and three spot fires. Avista was contacted due to the fire’s proximity to high-voltage feeder lines.
Valley man passes away in single-car accident
A single-vehicle collision has claimed the life of 59-year-old Brian Gilbert of Valley, who passed away last Thursday, June 27, 2024. According to Washington State Patrol (WSP) reports, Gilbert was driving his 2022 Toyota RAV4 northbound on State Route 231 at milepost 72 when it “left the roadway and struck two signposts and one utility pole. [The] vehicle … came to rest against a utility pole off the roadway.”
