A steady performer throughout the season, senior goaltender Alex Reedy has been named the Most Valuable Athlete for the Stillwater boys hockey team.

Since current NHL player Noah Cates was named the team’s MVP in 2017, the award has been presented to a goaltender each of the past seven seasons, starting with Jesse Brown (2018 and 2019) and continuing with Logan Bies (2020), Nolan LaCosse (2021), Tomas Anderson (2022 and 2023) and now Reedy.

Reedy, who was joined by teammates Blake Vanek, Brody Dustin, Luke Myers and Will Kane in earning All-Suburban East Conference honors, finished with a save percentage of .908, a 2.63 goals against average and one shutout in 24 games this season.

On a team that featured just four seniors, the Ponies finished with a 15-10-2 record, including 14-2 to tie eventual state-qualifier White Bear Lake (14-2) for the program’s first conference title since 2017 — and just the program’s third overall. Stillwater received the No. 3 seed in Section 4AA and was stopped by the Bears 5-1 in the semifinals.

Dustin led the Ponies with 28 goals and 17 assists for 45 points while Vanek was not far behind withi 17 goals and 24 assists for 41 points. Additional scoring leaders for the Ponies included Myers (14 goals-24 assists—38 points), Matthew Volkman (10-17—27) and Trey Fredenberg (11-12—23).

Senior Will Kane received the team’s Top Defenseman Award while Dustin was honored with the Top Forward Award. Blaine Batchelor, who joined Wyatt Carroll, Kane and Reedy as the only seniors on the roster, was presented the Hubbard/7th Man Award.

Captains for next year’s team will be named prior to the start of the season.
