OAK PARK HEIGHTS — A strong showing in singles paved the way to Stillwater’s 6-1 nonconference boys tennis victory over Chisago Lakes on Thursday, April 4 at Stillwater Area High School.
It was the season opener for the Ponies (1-0), who cruised through four singles matches without dropping a set.
Carter Magistad breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Aaron Brink at No. 1 singles and West Dell followed with a 6-1, 6-1 triumph at the second spot.
Dustin Jurca delivered a 6-1, 6-4 victory at third singles and Ben Most prevailed comfortably with a 6-1, 6-0 win in the fourth spot.
The doubles matches were tighter, with the Ponies earning narrow victories at the first two positions.
Oren Hamilton and Garin Warner outlasted Caleb Brink and Rhivers Sauter 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-3) at first doubles while teammates Logan Liveringhouse and Joe Patucek secured a 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles.
Chisago Lakes collected its lone point at third doubles, with Sam Kern and Quinlyn Ryan turning back Tyler Duda and Gavin Schuna 6-2, 6-3.
The Ponies were scheduled to face perennial Suburban East Conference power Mounds View in their conference opener on Thursday, April 11.
