Thai Basil in Stillwater is closing its doors after nearly a decade in business.

The restaurant’s chef and owner Phouvanh Soderquist recently announced that Sunday would be its last day serving customers. Located at 1180 W Frontage Rd., Thai Basil first opened in February 2015.

“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of Thai Basil Restaurant after serving the Stillwater community for a decade,” the announcement reads.

“We want to express our deepest gratitude to our loyal customers who have supported us the last 10 years.”

Soderquist told the Pioneer Press that she and her husband had been looking to sell the building in the time leading up to the closure. She also said staffing had been one of the biggest challenges facing the restaurant.

Soderquist opened her first restaurant, Pad Thai on Grand in St. Paul, in 1999. The restaurant remains open, though Soderquist is no longer involved in the operation.
