College Football Star Running Back Arrested For DUI, Speeding Over the Weekend

One college football star is under the microscope after the weekend. His team has a decision to make.

The nation's top running back from last season, Oklahoma State Cowboys star Ollie Gordon III , was arrested on suspicion of DUI and for speeding.

How the program handles the incident will be worth monitoring. Presumably, the Cowboys will handle the matter internally. Even so, it's not what you want to see from a team leader.

The Cowboys return 21 starters from last season but none bigger than Gordon. The talented back won the Doak Walker award in 2023, an award given to the nation's top running back.

In 2023, Gordon rushed for 1,732 yards and 21 touchdowns on 285 carries. He added 39 receptions for 330 yards and a touchdown.

For reference, Oklahoma State quarterback Alan Bowman threw for 15 touchdown passes last season. While Bowman had good moments, the Cowboys offense was heavily reliant on Gordon.

The Cowboys may need to lean on Gordon again if they want to challenge Utah and Kansas State for a Big 12 title in 2024.

We'll keep an eye on how Oklahoma State addresses the incident in the coming days. The Cowboys start the season against South Dakota State on Aug. 31.
