Mosquito Control mission set for Monday, July 1, over western Key West
Because of recent rains, the Florida Keys Mosquito Control District has scheduled aerial larviciding missions for Monday, July 1, from 6:30 to 10 a.m., over the western portion of Key West. The helicopter mission will be completed, weather permitting, using Bti, which is a mosquito larva-specific soil bacteria. It is mixed with water and applied as a mist to combat Aedes aegypti, the mosquito that can transmit dengue fever, chikungunya and Zika. Monroe County School District’s affordable housing plans take shape
After 2024-2025 contracts, such as personnel salary schedules and “safe school” agreements with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and Key West Police Department were approved, Monroe County School District Attorney Gaelen Jones shared a Trumbo affordable housing update at the June 25 Monroe County School Board meeting at Coral Shores High School. Florida Humanities Selects the Key West Art & Historical Society to Host Smithsonian Institution Food Exhibition in 2026. Key West, Florida (July 1, 2024) — Florida Humanities, in partnership with the Smithsonian Institution’s Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES), has launched a new exhibition partnership program, “Exhibition Starter Kit: FOOD” and selected the Key West Art & Historical Society as an inaugural recipient. In total, eight nonprofit organizations received funding from Florida Humanities in June 2024 to create exhibitions that capture and share local narratives on food, utilizing templated resources as well as virtual and in-person support from the Smithsonian Institution.
