The Lone Girl Brewing Company is opening an intimate taproom on Madison's eastside
Waunakee-based craft brewery The Lone Girl Brewing Company will open a second location on Madison’s east side on July 5. The new Lone Girl Taproom at 1817 E. Washington Ave. will feature Lone Girl's usual lineup of IPAs, stouts, ambers and more — plus, Roman-style pizza, an offering that's unique to the Madison taproom.

Opinion | The history of Hoffman House lives on in my memory
I've had a beer stein or two — even a couple of boots — at Madison's Essen Haus, one of the few authentic German restaurants in Madison. But when the City Council last week gave the OK to the developer who wants to replace it with an apartment building and hotel in the 500 block of East Wilson Street, it wasn't the demise of this fine purveyor of everything from great schnitzels to German sausages that set my nostalgic juices flowing.

Community Events Calendar: July 5-13
Time, date, location subject to change. 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Verona Senior Center, 108 Paoli St. Open to beginners, as well as those with experience, these classes cover a variety of watercolor techniques and guide you through a painting.
