Loyola’s Roman Qualifies For U.S. Amateur
CONCORD, Mass. – Loyola rising senior Jackson Roman qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship on Monday, tying for first in a final qualifier at Concord Country Club. Roman shot a bogey-free 5-under 65 on Monday on the 6,703-yard, par-70 course to tie Bryson Richards and James Imai for medalist honors at the qualifier. He will play in his first U.S. Amateur at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minnesota, starting on August 12. Roman will join his future teammate, Eli Spaulding, at the tournament. Troop 382 Builds New Footbridge for Westborough’s Sandra Pond
By MyFM’s Claire Beverly – Boy Scout Troop 382 has helped the Westborough Department of Public Works and Conservation Land Trust build a new footbridge over the Sandra Pond spillway. A spokesman for the Land Trust’s Stewardship Committee tells the Community Advocates the 24-foot-long footbridge is a great example of community collaboration. Officials say the goal is to keep hikers and fishermen from crossing the spillway and causing more damage to it. The DPW is next planning to build a path on both sides of the bridge.
Hopkinton Promotes Age and Dementia Friendly Community Initiative
By MyFM’s Claire Beverly – Hopkinton’s town manager says the town continues its active involvement with the Age and Dementia Friendly Community initiative. Elaine Lazarus says it’s part of an overall goal to make Hopkinton a safe, nurturing and inviting place to live and work for seniors, people living with dementia, their loved ones, and caregivers. She says there are periodic Dementia Friends Information sessions that help you learn some of the things you can do to make a difference. The next one in Hopkinton is in October.

Milford Teen Facing Charges for Loaded Gun in Shrewsbury Traffic Stop
By MyFM’s Claire Beverly – A Milford teen is facing charges after he was allegedly found with a loaded gun in a car in Shrewsbury. It happened July 14 when a Shrewsbury officer pulled the car over on Route 9. The officer says there were six people in the car and when it stopped two of them ran. But the officer spotted one guy trying to conceal a bag under the seat. A search of the bag allegedly turned up a loaded 9mm handgun. 18-year-old Nicolas Alves-Santos reportedly faces possession of a firearm without a license and several more counts.
Westborough and Southborough Electronics Recycling Event on July 27

There are some fees attached ranging from $5 to $45 but they are taking things like computers, flat-screen TVs, microwaves, refrigerators, water heaters, mattresses and more. Boston Mayor Michelle Wu announces she is pregnant with third child
BOSTON - Boston Mayor Michelle Wu has announced that she is pregnant and will welcome her third child in January. "Conor, Blaise, Cass, and I can't wait to welcome another little one to our family and to Boston," Wu said in an email to supporters Monday night. "It hasn't been an easy journey, but I'm due in January and couldn't be more grateful." In 2021, Wu became the first woman and the first person of color to be elected mayor of Boston. "I'm grateful to live in this welcoming community that has become the best home my family could imagine. And I'm grateful to know and represent so many hardworking families throughout our city who inspire me everyday," Wu said in the email. Wu, 39, told the Boston Globe that she plans to run for reelection next year."I've been a mom and caregiver as long as I've been in public service," Wu said.
