Alien: Romulus First Reactions – “Best in the Franchise” With “An Insane Final Act”

Alien: Romulus has met its first audience, and early reactions are pouring in for Fede Alvarez's addition to the franchise birthed by Ridley Scott in 1979.

In this new chapter, we witness a group of young space colonizers who stumble upon a derelict space station where terrifying life forms lurk.

Alvarez's young cast consists of Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, Archie Renaux, David Jonsson, Aileen Wu, Spike Fearn and Robert Bobroczkyi, and the film will hit theaters on August 16.

Not only do Ridley Scott and James Cameron love Alien: Romulus , but so do audiences, who are coming out of early screenings raving about what Alvarez has accomplished.

Senior Artisans Editor at Variety, Jazz Tangcay, says "this is easily one of the better films in the franchise" and that "the practical effects are so good that the film gave me nightmares."

This has to be music to Alvarez's ears, who has proudly stated that "there is no green screen" in the film .

The Escape Pod Podcast was also in attendance and said Alien: Romulus is "the best in the franchise, and may be my new favorite horror."

Big Screen Berkan expressed that the film has "The most insane final act of a film [they] think [they've] ever seen" and @HoleAndOats on X teased that final act further, with an unexpected reveal that the film has "an unexpected third act musical number".

Other reactions include praising the film for "great homages to the original", "the best sound editing experience of 2024", and say " Fede Alvarez remains undefeated".
