A Man-Made Stream Brings Retreat to a Hudson Backyard
Man-made stream brings relaxation and peace to homeowners' property. By Lynne Thompson. The 187-year-old town of Hudson looks like a location Disney might use to shoot a movie set in a kinder, gentler America — a picture-perfect kind of place where residents expect to enjoy peace only broken by the occasional sound of a lawnmower. But appearances can be deceiving, as one couple discovered.
Downtown crowd flocks to Rib, White, and Blue’s first day
The air smelled of smoke and barbecued meats at the opening of the annual Rib, White, and Blue Festival, which kicked off in downtown Akron today. The sky was cloudy, but the rain held off until late afternoon, making for a busy Wednesday lunch crowd at the festival. Many of the rib vendors had lines several people deep, and more attendees sat at tables spread along South Main Street, eating ribs, pulled pork, brisket and a smorgasbord of side dishes, including macaroni and cheese, collard greens and roasted corn on the cob.

Parked at 834 W. Market St. I have a recurring dream that the jingle of a taco truck can be heard on my street, ready to deliver delicious Mexican fare to my house. It sounds like Mariachi music. The scent of garlic, coriander and chiles waft through the breeze. While...

Dining at the newly opened Stirling in Akron was a luxurious, three-hour experience that I'll never forget. From the minute you step into the small, elegant restaurant with its warm earth tones and soothing, low lighting, you're experiencing a special event. I enjoyed the new fine dining spot at Liberty Commons in the Merriman Valley with foodie friend and co-worker Tawney Beans, who enthusiastically joined in the adventure on a recent Monday night. ...

Celebrating 90 years in business, Swensons Drive-In fuels growth by embracing its legacy
When Jeff Flowers graduated from a local high school and enrolled in the University of Akron, the first thing he did — “like many Akron natives,” he says — was apply for a job at Swensons Drive-In Restaurants. As a “curb server” tasked with rushing orders out to customers’ cars “with a sprint and a smile,” Flowers quickly learned that his job wasn’t just serving handspun milkshakes or olive-topped Galley Boy burgers; it was delivering a memorable experience for every guest, every time. Ever since the iconic drive-in began flipping burgers back in 1934, Swensons has become revered both for its fresh-grilled, made-to-order meals, as well as its friendly, speedy curbside service.

Now...

As more things change, some things must stay the same
Swensons has grown considerably since its founding 90 years ago. And because of its growth — moving from a single location in West Akron to 21 restaurants today across Ohio and its first out-of-state location in Indiana — change has been necessary. But that change has had to be balanced with what has made Swensons special to generations of customers.
