Ox Roast Fair brings food, fun to Mantua
A good crowd of people enjoyed the 60th annual Ox Roast fair at St. Joseph Parish in Mantua over the weekend, taking in fireworks, tractor and truck pulls, music and carnival rides. Oh, and enjoying that ox roast beef. The parish festival has been running since 1964, helping to pay for new school, and these days supporting the educational and sacramental ministries of the parish. Summit County Fair opens this week; kids under 15 get in free 1 day
TALLMADGE, Ohio – The Summit County Fair is scheduled for July 23-28 at the fairgrounds in Tallmadge, located at 229 E. Howe Road. A family tradition since 1850, the fair offers 4-H and open-class exhibits in livestock, horticulture, floraculture, domestic arts, culinary arts and fine arts. More than 250 food and commercial vendors will be spread out across the 66-acre fairgrounds, according to event organizers.
Ellerhorst Dental Opens in Mantua
Dr. Lydia Ellerhorst was born and raised in Garrettsville. She began her education at Mount Union, completing her dental degree at The Ohio State University. Afterward, she served in the United States Army Dental Corps from 2009 to 2014. “It was five years of hard work, caring for the dental needs of soldiers in and out of deployment.” During that time, she saw eight patients a day, five days a week. While in the Army Dental Corp, Dr. Ellerhorst also completed an Advanced General Dentistry Residency program at Fort Bragg NC, graduating in 2012. She and her family returned to Garrettsville shortly afterward. For the last seven years, she’s worked at a dental clinic in Courtland.
Popular Cuyahoga Falls bridge closes for the summer for construction
CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio — Those heading to Blossom Music Center soon may want to plan their trip, as a popular bridge in Cuyahoga Falls is closed for the rest of the summer. The Steels Corners Bridge eastbound has been closed on E. Steels Corners Road West of the State Route 8 interchange. The Summit County Engineer's website states the closure is to allow crews to replace bridge expansion joints, overlay the bridge deck with concrete and more.
Reed Memorial library opens new landscapes
On July 16, Library Director Amy Young and Library Board President Frank Cimino cut the bright blue ribbon between the pillars of Reed Memorial Library’s new outdoor pavilion, officially opening the renovated landscape to the public. Summit County sewer services says new software to blame for recent billing errors
The Summit County Department of Sanitary Sewer Services (DSSS) announced Wednesday that the department has been implementing a new utility billing software that has led to issues for some customers in Stow, Hudson and Akron. Inside the time capsule were, among other things, old newspapers, an old book from the Garrettsville 120th Centennial and a song written about Garrettsville called “Old Garrettsville” that was sung by two girls, according to the James A.
