Struthers to receive $500K grant to improve route for safe school travel
The City of Struthers will receive a $500,000 grant from the State in order to make a school route safer for students. On July 2, the State and the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) announced $8.5 million in grants for infrastructure projects to improve safety for K-12 students walking and biking to and from school in 19 counties.
Mahoning Valley Community School secures $1 million for new addition
A bi-partisan bill signed by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine over the weekend is providing $1 million dollars to the Mahoning Valley Community School. That money, combined with $2.5 million in federal funds already in hand, will be used to build a new addition to the school so they can better engage area youth.
Ohio Schools Under EPA Mandate for Asbestos and Lead Paint Remediation
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has taken decisive action to address hazardous conditions in three Ohio schools managed by Accel Schools Ohio LLC. Youngstown Academy of Excellence, Niles Preparatory Academy, and STEAM Academy of Warren have been ordered to implement extensive measures to eliminate asbestos and lead paint hazards that pose significant health risks to students and staff.
