Aboard a Stuart Family’s Bluewater 2550

What begins as a hobby often becomes a lifestyle, which is the case with Jennifer Johnson. The Stuart resident developed an interest in fishing and boating at an early age, fun-fishing alongside her brother as a kid.

Her interests eventually led to aspirations of someday running her own vessel abroad to cruise, fish, and dive in the Bahamas. Ultimately, this would become a family affair. Now a mom of two sons, Reggie and Zachary, Johnson encouraged her boys to share her love of fishing, and, after owning several other boats, she pulled the trigger on a brand-new Bluewater 2550 center console named Limitless —a perfect fit for this adventurous family.

With her previous experience on a smaller Bluewater and friendship with the former owners of the company, the odds were already tilted in favor of this brand. But the deciding factor in Johnson’s decision to go with the Bluewater 2550 had more to do with the ability to navigate safely and comfortably on her own.

Something else that played a big role in the choice of model is the diverse collection of fishing and diving styles the Johnson family enjoys. From free-diving and spearfishing the Bahama Bank to reef-fishing and offshore big-game fishing, the 2550 can handle all of their needs. The vessel is nimble enough to ply the waters around the shallow coral heads and reefs in the islands and still seaworthy enough to deal with a harsh weather day sail-fishing off Stuart during a winter cold front.

The Bluewater 2550 comes standard with a 35-gallon live well, five fully lined fish boxes including a 480-quart insulated hold, a 7-foot lockable rod storage compartment, a finished console interior with optional head, and a 10-year hull warranty. Johnson chose a pair of Garmin multifunction display units for her GPS plotter and fish-finder units and maximum-
rated twin Suzuki 200 outboards for power.

Johnson derives much satisfaction from sharing her interest with friends and loved ones. She often takes friends out to catch their first sailfish or achieve another angling milestone, helping others enjoy a sport that means so much to her family. With her sons now in their twenties, Johnson’s network of fishing fanatics has grown exponentially, and as a result, this crew keeps abreast of any hot bite going on from day to day and is always on top of the latest intel around the Stuart docks.
