If you’ve been binge-watching Cobra Kai Season 6 on Netflix like the rest of us, you’re probably dying to know who’s going to come out on top at the Sekai Taikai. Let’s break it down, shall we? Warning: there are spoilers ahead for Cobra Kai Season 6, Part 1.

First things first—what exactly is this tournament everyone’s losing their minds over? Well, Demetri sums it up nicely in the first episode of the season: “It’s the most prestigious karate tournament in modern martial arts history.” To put it into perspective even more, Hawk drops this gem: if the All Valley tournament is “March Madness,” then the Sekai Taikai is the full-on “Olympics” of martial arts. And he’s not exaggerating: in the Cobra Kai universe, this competition has been around for over a century, bringing together the world’s top fighters every two years.

So, who wins the Sekai Taikai? As of now, the outcome of the Sekai Taikai remains a mystery. Fans will have to wait until Cobra Kai Season 6, Part 2, coming out in November 2024, to find out who comes out victorious. But hey, that doesn’t mean we can’t get to know our contenders ahead of this epic showdown.

After some pretty intense trials (and a bit of drama), six students from Miyagi-Do have earned their spots in the international tournament. The final roster includes some familiar faces—and a few surprises. Leading the pack as team captains are Samantha and Robby. Of course, Miguel also made the cut. Then we’ve got Devon, who secured her spot through some, let’s say, questionable tactics (poor Kenny won’t be forgetting that porta-potty incident anytime soon). Demetri surprised everyone by nabbing a spot after besting Eli (aka Hawk) in the forest. But in a last minute addition, Hawk made his way onto the lineup to round out this powerhouse team.

Just when you thought the Sekai Taikai couldn’t get any more intense, Cobra Kai Season 6, Part 1 also brought Kreese back into the picture. After his dramatic prison escape in the Season 5 finale, Kreese has been busy. Instead of laying low, he’s been halfway across the world in Korea, teaming up with Kim Da-Eun and training fighters for the big competition. Joining him, much to viewers’ surprise, is none other than Tory. Just when we thought she turned over a new leaf, the fighter is back with Cobra Kai—and after her mother’s death, there’s no doubt that she’s going to bring her all on the mat.

According to Jon Hurwitz, one of the co-creators behind Cobra Kai , viewers are in for a wild ride. He’s promising “martial arts at a level higher than you’ve ever seen before,” according to an interview with Netflix’s Tudum .

But it’s not just about the fighting—there’s going to be even more pressure, intense emotions, and, of course, a whole lot of drama. Think about it: Hawk and Demetri aren’t exactly best buds going into the competition, Miguel and Robby are still working through their issues, and the tensions between Tory and Sam never got fully resolved. Let’s not forget Johnny and Daniel’s eternal frenemy status, too. Throw Kreese into that mix, and we’ve got ourselves a powder keg just waiting to explode.

While we can’t predict the winner just yet, Hurwitz notes that the Season 6, Part 2 episodes are going to be “some of the most combustible episodes we’ve had.” One thing’s for sure—with all this tension, rivalry, and world-class karate, it’s going to be one heck of a showdown.

Cobra Kai Season 6: Part 1 is now streaming on Netflix. Season 6: Part 2 premieres on November 15, 2024.
