SUFFIELD, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - Connecticut State Police arrest a correctional officer in connection with an alleged assault on an inmate at the MacDougal-Walker Correctional Institute.

Officers responded on August 12, 2023 to a "Code Blue," signaling a physical altercation between inmates.

An inmate involved was being moved to the Restrictive Housing Unit, when there was resistance and the inmate and several correctional officers ended up on the ground.

Multiple witnesses identified Officer Christopher Carlson, 33, as the person who allegedly struck the inmate, resulting in an eye injury to the inmate and a brief period during which he may have lost conciousness.

During police and union interviews, Officer Carlson has said that he "...has no idea where those accusations came from," according to his arrest warrant.

Officer Carlson has been charged with third-degree assault. He is on paid administrative leave and is due in court on July 12.
