    Chesapeake man killed, two still listed in critical condition after two vehicle crash Monday

    Suffolk, Virginia — Suffolk Police are currently investigating a two-vehicle collision with a single fatality that occurred on Monday, March 4, 2024. Emergency Communications received notification of the incident at 7:01 a.m. in the 1200 block of Portsmouth Blvd.

    Upon preliminary investigation, it has been determined that two vehicles were involved. The first vehicle was occupied by a driver and one passenger, while the second vehicle was occupied solely by a driver. The driver of the second vehicle was traveling westbound on Portsmouth Blvd when they collided with the first vehicle.

    All three occupants sustained life-threatening injuries. Two occupants were transported by ground to an area hospital, while the third occupant was airlifted via Nightingale to an area hospital and later succumbed to their injuries.

    The victim has been identified as Ray Fulayter, 52, of Chesapeake, according to police.

    The westbound lanes of Portsmouth Blvd, including the Route 58 westbound Downtown Suffolk exit, remain closed at this time, with a detour in place for motorists.

    The accident continues to be under investigation, and there is no further information available for release.
