    Ruptured gas line shuts down Carolina Road

    Suffolk Fire and Rescue says a ruptured gas line shut down Carolina Rd Tuesday morning. Crews responded to the 700 block of Carolina Road for a ruptured 4” gas line at approximately 9:30 a.m.

    The gas line was struck by an excavating company performing work in the area. Approximately 40 workers were evacuated from the scene and relocated at a safe distance from the ruptured line. There are several businesses and one home nearby. Those occupants have been advised to shelter in place.

    Colombia Gas has been notified and is en route to the scene. Suffolk Police have Carolina Road at Benton Road shut down in both directions. Suffolk Public works will begin work to reroute traffic away from the scene.

    There were no injuries as a result of this incident.
