If you’re looking for a smokin’ good time during the smoldering summer, Westside Burgers and Fries is offering both good food and good tunes for Suffolk residents.

The Bridgeport restaurant, located at 1780 Bridgeport Way, is currently holding its Westside at the Silos Summer Concert Series from 6 to 9 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays until August 31. Presented by the Bridgeport Foundation, customers can expect electric live performances alongside their dinner with various bands such as the Heather Edwards Band, Paul Urban and Friends, and much more throughout the season. Saturday, June 8, saw a performance by the Sam Floyd Band, providing 70s hits such as ‘Love the One You’re With’ by Stephen Stills and ‘Superstitious’ by Stevie Wonder.

Westside Burgers General Manager Crystal Selby called the music series family-friendly and perfect for residents looking for something to do after work.

“So come in after work, bring the kids. Lots of kids games outside, lots of kids outside stuff: sandboxes, big cornhole, Connect 4, all those big outside games. Plus, the outside bar that just opened up and just a nice after work, easy, breezy environment,” Selby said.

When discussing the goal of putting the concert series together, Selby says the focus was on bringing out home-grown bands for the community to enjoy.

“That’s what Westside is trying to be, is your neighborhood community spot. So the bands that we book are after the same intent,” she said. “With such a new business, we’re trying to be [where] you get off of work, you come and have a burger, you’re on your lunch break, you come have a burger. But then, you bring your kids and your family after church or after basketball practice or after your kid’s sports practice … just really trying to be that neighborhood place.”

Selby continued, detailing the Westside Farm Market that they opened to help fill the gap that the Bennett’s Creek Farmers Market left behind.

“At Westside, we have brought in fresh meat products, fresh produce, fresh honey, everything from Suffolk to try to fill that hole for the community, and as much as our owners are a family business, we want to be a family company with family customers,” she said.

Likewise, Selby expressed wanting Westside to be a key part of the Suffolk community.

“If you need anything in the community, you should reach out to Westside Burgers and let us be a part of what’s going on in the neighborhood,” she said. “We are more than happy to be a part of everything.”
