Free MUSIC in the PARK on Wednesdays at NOON in Sullivan, Maine
Age-Friendly Sullivan is delighted to invite you to our 2nd weekly event of musicians entertaining our community on Wednesdays at noon, on July 17th, 2024. Local musician, Bruce Munger will be our guest artist at our MUSIC in the PARK, under the tents at Sumner Memorial Park in Sullivan. Bruce has lived in Sullivan since 1990, teaching at MDIHS and working as a volunteer firefighter. Before moving here he taught in southern Maine, and performed in clubs around Maine & New Hampshire. He sings in the gazebo during town events, including the Christmas tree lighting, and patriotic holidays. As a soloist, he also plays guitar & harmonica, and has several original songs. Bring a picnic lunch, bring your family and friends, meet your neighbors and relax under the tents near the Gazebo. These events are FREE to the public. While our focus is Sullivan, residents and visitors in neighboring communities are welcome to join us in our community events, attend our monthly meetings and programs, plus learn how they may become an Age-Friendly Livable Community in Maine. New Glen Mary design floated at Council meeting
BAR HARBOR — Plans for the new Glen Mary pool were unveiled at Tuesday’s Town Council meeting, but the overall cost, estimated to be north of $1 million, is yet unknown. In a presentation to the Council, Mike Rogers, landscape architect of LARK Studio, explained some of the design choices of the plan.
YMCA recognizes community at anniversary event
BAR HARBOR — The Mount Desert Island community came out to celebrate the YMCA’s 125th Anniversary at a gala event last Thursday at The Bar Harbor Club. The gathering began with cocktails and a silent auction on the terrace and a curated display by the Bar Harbor Historical Society of MDI YMCA memorabilia, then moved to a buffet dinner interspersed with insights from guest speakers, reflections by the YMCA’s award recipients and a paddle raise to support a few of the Y’s programs, most notably the new endowment MacLeod Fund, to support free swim lessons and water safety for all five-year-old children and scholarship for summer day camp.
Park, FOA announce $10 million campaign for seasonal housing
BAR HARBOR — To provide housing for approximately 60 seasonal workers in Acadia, Friends of Acadia announced a $10 million campaign for housing at Harden Farm on Kebo Road in Bar Harbor and Dane Farm on Jordan Pond Road in Seal Harbor. Both sites are within Acadia National Park.
