Historical Society Re-Opens 2nd Floor, Holds Ribbon Cutting
BOONE, Iowa—President of the Boone County Historical Society Board of Directors, Sue Kruckenberg, welcomed volunteers and guests to the Historical Center Thursday for the much awaiting ribbon cutting ceremony, re-opening the 2nd floor with a new look. The Kate Shelley display is relocated and served as the back drop for the ribbon cutting. A display for the Ledges State Park is on the 2nd floor and a new display about Agriculture in Boone County is still being established. Kruckenberg told those in attendance the board has a ten year plan for the 2nd floor, but with a bequest from Wayne Erickson, were able to complete the project in three years and about 20,000 volunteer hours.

Voters to decide on $35 million Waukee aquatic center in November
WAUKEE, Iowa — On Wednesday, the Waukee City Council unanimously voted to add a bond referendum for a new $35 million outdoor aquatic center to the November ballot. If approved by 60% of voters in the Nov. 5 election, the proposed aquatic center will be built with almost 23,000 of square feet of water facilities, four distinct pools, a lazy river and a splash pad.

Grand Junction Was in the Limelight With Inaugural Channel Seed Customer Appreciation Event Wednesday Night
An augural event that was held in Grand Junction Wednesday night brought hundreds of people to the downtown area. Channel Seed Field Service Representative Savannah Lyons tells Raccoon Valley Radio the Channel Customer Appreciation event was hosted by Dustin Fouch of Fouch Agriservice, where between 1,500 and 2,000 Channel customers from 14 states attended. State disaster declaration made following July storms, derecho
Counties in our area have officially been declared state disaster areas after the mid-July derecho that went across Illinois and Iowa, producing flooding rains and tornadoes. The Illinois Emergency Management Agency says Governor JB Pritzker has declared Henry and Fulton Counties — along with Cook, St. Clair, Washington, Winnebago, and Will Counties disaster areas with a proclamation issued Friday. A federal disaster declaration has been requested, but no word on when that might happen.
2024 Iowa State Fair Skillathon Contest Results Announced
AMES, Iowa – This year, 192 youth from 49 Iowa counties participated in Iowa State University Extension and Outreach skillathons for meat goats, sheep and swine at the Iowa State Fair. The swine and sheep skillathons took place on Aug. 11 and a goat skillathon was held on Aug. 14.
